Transforming Learning iPads

Fife Rationale

The main rationale of Transforming Learning in Fife is to close the digital divide and raise educational attainment by providing every pupil from P6 to S6 and their teachers with a 1:1 personal digital device (an Apple iPad).

Equity and Inclusion: Ensuring every young person has equal access to technology regardless of their background, supporting learners with additional support needs (ASN) via built-in accessibility tools.

Future Readiness: Equipping students with the critical digital skills needed for modern life, further education, and the future workplace.

Personalised Learning: Allowing students to work at their own pace, access resources anytime and anywhere, and receive faster feedback from teachers.

Pedagogical Shift: Empowering teachers through professional learning to modernize teaching, reduce reliance on paper printing, and streamline assignment submissions.

Caledonia High School

One to One Device Provision: Every secondary student (S1 to S6, connecting down to P6) is issued a personal iPad to bring to school daily, charged and ready for classes. There are charging points across the school for young people to utilize throughout the day, as well as specific charging lockers that can be used at key times.

Daily Routines: Lessons, note-taking, interactive media, and homework rely smoothly on shared digital ecosystems. The school have opted to predominantly use Showbie for this purpose and all young people and staff employ the same digital filing system

Interactive Teaching Walls: Every classroom and shared learning space is equipped with an interactive teaching wall which can enhane learning into a collaborative digital workspace to allow young people and staff to interact directly with content through their own devices in real-time.

Immersive Classroom: First immersive classroom in Fife, this is a valuable addition to our school because it creates engaging, interactive learning experiences that bring concepts to life. By using large-scale projections, digital environments, sound and interactive content, young people can be fully immersed in a topic rather than simply reading or hearing about it.

Dedicated Digital Post Holder: To support staff, and young people to access all of the features available on their devices as well as offer CPD for new staff.

Digital Champions: A pupil led group who support through drop in session and during CPD sessions
