P7 Transition
Transition to Caledonia High School
Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and we are committed to ensuring every young person feels confident, supported and ready for the move to Caledonia High School. Our transition programme begins well before young people arrive in S1 and is designed to build strong relationships with young people, families and primary colleagues throughout the year. The process includes regular information sharing between primary and secondary staff, dedicated support for young people requiring additional support, parental information evenings, enhanced transition opportunities, and a range of events that allow young people to become familiar with their new school environment.
Throughout the year, P7 young people are given numerous opportunities to engage with Caledonia High School through open evenings, after-school activities, curriculum-based events, health and wellbeing experiences, STEM activities and buddy programmes. Our staff work closely with primary schools to ensure an understanding of each young person's strengths, needs and aspirations, enabling us to provide a smooth transition experience. The programme culminates in our induction days, where young people follow an S1 timetable, meet staff and classmates, and begin to feel part of the school community before officially starting in August.
At Caledonia High School, we believe that successful transition is about more than simply moving schools; it is about creating a sense of belonging, building confidence and ensuring every young person is prepared to thrive from their very first day in S1.
